Focused. Determined. Persevering and Innovative.  Implementing large-scale change at the system level is hard work.

Yet that is what   SDED is pursuing -- a series of very big, grid-scale changes -- through Community Choice and related electricity system changes.  Together, and for many reasons, these changes represent a very big, exciting and "win-win-win" transition for all San Diego rate payers.  To the electricity system of the future.   It's our Mission.

To accomplish a Mission this bold and far-reaching, we do many things.  Multiple Initiatives are underway for 2017.  Each Initiative i guided by our Strategic Plan, informed by Advisors and supported by SDED's Directors and Officers.

In 2017, SDED has prioritized Outreach and Education.  This Initiative consists of three headline events and two related activities:
  • "San Diego 2017 Community Choice Forum" -- Held March 10, the Forum is a day-long event for San Diego elected officials, staffs and community leaders.  SDED is cosponsoring this invitation-only event with the Climate Action Campaign and RenovateAmerica.
  • Electricity Storage and  Community Choice: A Discussion Paper -- This paper stems from SDED's 2016 research into the opportunities for electricity storage to benefit small- and mid-sized businesses via Community Choice.  Released spring 2017.
  • "The Business of Local Energy Symposium 2017" -- Once again, SDED is serving as a local promotional partner to this event, the single best Conference on Community Choice this year.  For insight on the evolving experience statewide and a chance to hear directly from key players, this is the event for you.   Read more.
  • Revitalizing the "Ambassadors" program.  SDED's original Ambassadors program was launched in 2012, following our original Community Choice event.  After five years, its time to revisit, evaluate and revamp this effort.  Read more here.
  • "Energy Storage North America" -- SDED is pleased to bring a half-day workshop to this national event, hosted at the San Diego Convention Center in August.  Our focus?  You guessed it - Electricity Storage in the Context of Community Choice".  Details here.
In general, major Initiatives all fall under one of SDED's three big Priorities.  To support this work, please become a member today!

  • Defending Community Choice
  • Advancing the Clean Energy Economy
